Mom came up with a delicious raw salad the other day - so I thought I would share it. I am sorry I have no pictures.

Cabbage, shredded
Kale, diced small
Carrots, shredded
Raw Pecans, coarsely chopped
Pineapple, diced
Coconut, Shredded (unsweetened, sorry - not raw) - optional but recommended :-)

Sauce:
1 part Kefir (raw, plain)
1 part Sour Cream (raw)
Cinnamon to taste (We like a generous amount.)

1. Toss all your shredded veggies and fruit together in a large bowl.
2. In a separate bowl, mix together sauce. Drizzle over top and toss well to coat.

(If you sauce is too tangy for your tastes - add more cinnamon or a little honey.)
So I am always looking for ways to use them saw. This is a delicious salad that you can very for subtly different flavors. I recommend cutting your collards into small 1/4 inch wide by 1-2" long ribbons. Or if you have something that will shred it, you might consider that. It is a hardy green, so the smaller the pieces, the easier it is to chew. (My picture shows wider ribbons, which is fine if you re a die-hard collard fan...but most will prefer it thinner/smaller.) This recipe makes roughly 2 main servings or 4-6 sides.

1 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 clove of garlic minced
approx. 1T raw honey
approx. 1T xv pressed olive oil, flax oil or coconut oil
about 1/4 tsp black pepper(fresh ground is wonderful!)
1/4 tsp + of sea salt, herbal seas salt or 1T Braggs Liquid Aminos or Nama Shoyu

1 bunch of collard greens, rib removed and cut into strips or shred
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 small cucumber, chopped small (peeled if waxed)
(Sweet pea sprouts optional)

1. In a large bowl make the dressing.
2. Put the collard strips in the bowl and toss well to coat.(I like to use my hands or tongs). I like to rub it against the sides to get all the goodies.
3. Add veggies and toss lightly just one or twice.

This salad can be made ahead or it can be make to order and eaten right away.

ENJOY!

If you would like a little bit more of a kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper to your dressing, or increase your garlic. :-)MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-74897582751602317062012-02-17T06:16:00.000-08:002012-02-17T06:16:00.382-08:00The Laughing GorillaI used to think that Smoothies were always yogurt or kefir based, (which are still yummy mind you!). However, my eyes have been opened to vegan smoothies of all sorts, that are packed with good things! I am going to share with you the combinations that we discover and like. :-) This one is a recipe from Valya Boutenko.

The Laughing Gorilla
1 half of Romain Lettuce (I used 1 Romain Heart)
2 ripe frozen bananas, peeled
2 oranges, peeled and seeded
1 mango
2C water

Makes 2 Quarts

Put is all in the Vitamix and blend until smooth. It takes a minute to break down the lettuce until it is nie and smooth - so be sure to let it do that or you will have to hew your smoothy. :-0

This is drink is light and refreshing. Drink your salad! :-)MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-29874966112592321902012-02-16T07:52:00.001-08:002012-02-16T17:22:43.016-08:00My Favorite Kale Chips / Kale SaladThese kale chips are so amazing! My favorite recipe to date. This recipe fills one 9 tray Excalibur. In our house we make a double or quadruple batch at a time if we have the kale! We have 2 dehydrators and this makes an excellent tossed fresh salad too! It is very hard not to snack half the batch away while putting onto the trays! (You have been warned.) It is neat how the flavors changed once it has been dried too. This recipes is like 2 for 1!

3/4C Sesame Seeds (or prepared tahini)
1/4C Tamari Sauce (we use Braggs Liquid Aminos) Or Noma Shoyu if you can get it
1/2C Apple Cider Vinegar (raw is best!)
1/2C Pure Water
1 Green Onion
1/4 tsp Sea Salt
1/4C Fresh Parsley
2 large bunches of Kale, washed with ribs removed

1. In a high power blender, mix all the ingredients together except the kale. If you don't have a high powered blender, you sesame seeds might not get crushed well into the sauce. I would put the seeds and a little water in first to make a paste, then add the remaining ingredients. If it gives you trouble you could buy tahini instead of using seeds.

2. Put the washed, ribbed kale in a large bowl. Drizzle sauce and mix well to coat than lay out on onto your dehydrator sheets. Dry in your dehydrator on 105 until crisp. Time varies based on humidity and type of kale used. Its about 8 hours + -

If you turned up your heat it would go faster, but it would take some enzymes with it and would no longer be raw. No dehydrator or time? If you don't mind loosing the raw benefits, you can make these in the oven on a moderate temp (around 325-350) for about 10 minutes or until crisp. Similar to backing crackers. So you could enjoy this amazing recipe even if you don't have a dehydrator. For my fellow homesteaders, who want to do it off grid - put a rack above your wood stove or but them in a solar oven until crisp, and enjoy!

***A note on using this as a dressing. We absolutely LOVE it..but Little goes a long way. So you might consider reduein the dressing in half or doubling the kale. (We like to double the kale to 4 bunches!) :-)MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-64850031629868441122012-02-16T06:24:00.002-08:002012-02-16T06:31:28.308-08:00Breaking my Juice FastThis is the third day of breaking my Juice Feast and all is going well. I started with soaked prunes as directed and juicing for my first two days. I am passing my new solids well, so I moved forward and started eating fresh juicy fruit and kalamata olives. ( I think I was suppose to wait until today for the olives though...but they just sounded so good!) Now I am going to have salads, fruit and olives today. I have also had a couple things that weren't protocal. Lst night I had some homemade tomato soup and this morning I had some collard greens sauteed with garlic. Things seem to be going well. But it does seem weird to to really feel the food go through my body! It is interesting how it is has made me more sensitive to the inner working of my body (and I thought I WAS in tune with it). So that is just another benefit that I am thankful for, in my juice fast. :-)MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-47901685053364991432012-02-16T06:17:00.002-08:002012-02-16T17:23:15.137-08:00Hailey's Favorite Cheezy Kale Chips / Kale SaladI also think this recipe is delicious! I weighed in Yesturday and lost one pound. Maybe I got spoiled with the fast weight loss, but this is too disruptive to our daily lives to continue for such little return. Since my motives have changed from detox to weight loss after the 30 day mark, I have noticed my conviction and interest wayne greatly. I COULD just implore my stuborn bone - which is actually very strong and do it...but I just don't see the sense in it. I just started started soaking my prunes for tonight or tomorrow...I will finish my 37th day and break my fast. At first I thought, well, I should just go to a nice round intentional number of 40 days...but that would also include another Shabbat in the "breaking process", and I would like to enjoy sitting at the table with my family this Shabbat. So I am entering into my shift sooner. I would like to encorperate more raw food in our diet and share those recipes with you here. I hope to continue wieght loss as well, although I understand this last 20 pounds will come off more gradually than the first 22 pounds. I am glad, that I did it and I would do it again. This is a bitter sweet moment.

We will have guests staying with us all this week too...so in some ways I wish I would have just broken it last week so I would not have this element during their stay...but it is what it is and I am greatful for it!MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-51239562743485536232012-02-11T07:49:00.001-08:002012-02-11T08:09:18.570-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 34 & 35 Just a quick check in. I am still here. Enduring Shabbat in my Juice Fast. :-) Since I have had some practice now, the preparations and techniques aren't as daunting as they were in the beginning. I make 3 qrts of juice ahead on Friday afternoon, I freeze two and refrigerate one for the morning. I drink emergency or tea or broth (garlic, or veggie) if I feel the need to supplement something warn in these cold months. I could always drink Master Cleanse as well.
I thought I would incorporate more fermented beverages into my fast for variety and I have not yet...but I guess I still have a little time. I guess, I have lost some of my sense of adventure with it and am just "doing my time" on most days. :-)

I am getting excited about sharing raw food recipes with you in the future.

The bite here-and-there things an be a slippery slope, I do agree. Since my motivation has changed from detox to weight loss in this second leg, I do notice my conviction waning as well. I will check the scales and measure (tomorrow is my weigh in day) and see how things are progressing. If for any reason, I feel it is not advantageous to continue I will, break my fast and try to stick to protocol in doing so. Ben did not stick to protocol when he broke his fast, and I see he has had some issues with passing food in his transition...so, I hope to learn from his mistake. :-) I am still planning taking the fast to the end of February (breaking it on March 1st). Prayers are welcome! :-)

I still have some snot, not as colorful (except first thing in the morning), it is decreasing. I am thankful for that.MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-59002735114333814842012-02-09T04:43:00.000-08:002012-02-09T05:23:02.946-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 32 & 33
As my fasting gets more "normal' with time, I find I have less interesting things to share on a daily basis. So I hope you don't mind less frequent posts. I must admit, I am allowing myself to taste a spoon full of the food I am serving as I serve it. I didn't do that in my first month...I kind of feel like this is my "gravy time" so to speak. So the things I taste are still good real whole foods but were not raw. Andi's beans took me over the edge, I also had a bite of sauteed kale, and Lusi's tater casserole, and homemade chicken soup, this week. I'm ok with that. :-) I never knew how satisfying a spoon full can be. So maybe this is a little built in lesson of portion control for me too. :-)

Detoxing: Remember I mentioned the lymph node that swelled under my right armpit last week. The last I mentioned it was reducing in size and pain, well the day after that, it was gone (and no trace returned). (HalleluYah!) I just forgot to mention it.

I also mentioned the colds that have been going through our house. Mine moved up in my sinuses. The symptoms have been since last Shabbat (Saturday), but still remain. The strangest symptom i have with that is ORANGE snot. In my 41 years...I have never had orange snot! (Various shades of green and yellow, white and clear, yes. As well as blood, but this is ORANGE!) It gets even more strange...In the last two days, in the many opportunities I have had to blow my nose ...I get the fragrance of SMOKE as my snot comes out! Cigarette smoke...very distinctively. Many of you many not know this, but I used to smoke. I smoked for 9 years between from 15-24. I was a pretty heavy smoker too; but that has been... 17 years ago. Since then I have not been in a smoking environment AT ALL (except for when we go to my dad's to visit- but that has only been about 3 times in the last 5 years). It's just NOT a part of my culture now. :-) Isn't that strange? I wonder if my body is detoxing old smoke junk!!! Is that possible???

Rebounding: Rebounding isn't really happening like I had hoped. We spent all day yesterday moving everything upstairs, downstairs. On next Monday, we will have friends staying here, finishing our upstairs. (drywall, ceilings, doors, all the finishing touches, except the flooring) The one room that is practical for me to rebound in (because I can close the door and the ceilings are high enough) now has 6 beds in it and will be housing our contractors next week and now houses my children. SO....i put the tramp out into the trailer for now. I am going to have to come up with something else. :-) but I am excited about finishing the second floor! It has been 2 yrs in the waiting!MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-60475478269918444692012-02-07T17:00:00.000-08:002012-02-07T14:49:19.853-08:00Juice Feast Day 30 & 31! I thought it would be fun to put on the same clothes for the one month picture to see how the clothes fit differently. As you an see I am paked into my clothes here like a sausage. In retrospect, these clothes do not show my change in shape really well, but you can an idea of how differently these clothes fit. I lost quite a bit in teh chest and middle. You can also see how loose the shirt arms are here too. You can't see the loose in my thieghs because of the skirt... :-)

At the end of this feast I will take one more batch of pictures. He did not do the colonics or supplements accept for his first day, when he misunderstood me and also took some Casara Sagrada. That certainly got things MOOOOOVING a little faster than he liked! :-) When asked about detoxing, it seems he forgot that his first two days of it were pretty rough, he was wiped out, feeling rough and in bed. He says he thinks that was the Casara Sagrada...it is hard to know, if it was that alone or that in combo with detoxing.

We all had colds during most of that week and he didn't notice any difference with it staying longer OR leaving quicker. He also did not have a noticable energy spike like I did. (I am guessing that the cold is why he didn't notice a big energy surge like I did, because during my cold, my energy was just "maintaining" and had a day or two of sluggishness too. The energy is coming back as the cold is disipating.)

When asked, "Would you do it again?". (FOR THAT I AM SO THANKFUL!) He used to crave it, had to fight against the urges. However, while he was juicing, he never had those cravings! It was easy to keep on driving! (Yes!) For that reason alone, I think it was a sucessful Juice Feast well worth having been done!

MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-17632390075574815462012-02-05T18:16:00.000-08:002012-02-05T18:18:19.027-08:00Juice Feast Day 29

Today was an interesting day. I wrestled with myself. (Hey get your exercise how you an right??) :-) I was preparing myself mentally and with supplied for the end of my first tomorrow. Today was also my weigh-in day (listed in the tab above- I have lost 21 pounds and I it just dawned on me how much has happen in my body in just one month. Now that the month is (practically) behind me...I can say...I could do that again...So why not??? I am really diggin' this weight loss! :-) I guess I have been refreshed and gotten my second wind. I really would love to loose ANOTHER 20 pounds! If is doesn't happen, but I have decided that I would like to proceed to see what happens. I am also more free to exercises in the second month - so I really want to incorporate that into this.

So I looked at the calendar to see what events we have coming up. I have a dear friend's wedding shower next week, if I continue I will be drinking juice again, at yet ANOTHER special event that has lots of yummy food at it. I have decided to take it until March 1st, at which start the 6 day process of coming off the fast. My son's birthday is the 12th - I would like it to be all finished with a little buffer before that time. Then we have lots of company coming and camping trip and The Spring Feasts - it will be just in time to start preparing for all that. (Not to mention all projects on the farm.) My new goal will make my Juice Feast 54 days long when I reach my goal. if at any time, i feel like I am compromising my health for what ever reason, I will stop early - but I hope to make my goal! Doing this means that I will have to sacrifice another 4 Shabbat Family meals and I will have to sip my self through a few more meals with friends. :-( I have decided to continue to think past the meal or event of the day for the greater good. The benefits will last much longer than the time sacrificed. I might have to start playing with some more recipes to help me pass the time, though I get bored and wrestless and doing that helps me. I also think that I will get some bee pollen which is suggested...I can see what that is like to "chew on" every now and then. Maybe I will save THAT for my shabbat meal. This past Shabbat I had my green juice in a nice big red wine goblet while the other (adults) had wine...It's not quite the same...but it did beat a mason jar. So I think I'll do that for the next few weeks too.

I hope you will stick around for my juicing journey. Your comments, conversations, and prayers are very encouraging to me!

Oh, tomorrow, I hope to put on the same clothes that I wore on my starting picture and take an update photo since we hit the one month mark. I will do that again on my final day...if I can keep my skirt up. It is literally falling down to low on my hips now. I don't own a belt, but I need to get one! These are posative problems! Oh and the huge sit I had i the middle of my forhead is gone now too. :-)
Detoxing: I did wrap my toes with the detox pads and put the last one on the bottom of my foot. All three came out slimy and full. I ordered more and will continue to put them on again every night until they come out clean.MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-61888314566716995202012-02-04T21:48:00.001-08:002012-02-04T22:12:28.173-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 27 & 28 The last to days have been so packed (in a good way) that I just have not had a chance to sit down and update my juice journal. My cold still exists. I am really surprised it is not moving quicker.

Remember I mentioned trying the detox pads in those those other spots. Well I did do that Thursday night. I rapped both of my big toes in the pads (as those were the "points") related to the nose and sinus areas. I also put a pad (don't laugh - my husband did!) on the bridge of my nose between my eyes lower forehead..you know in that sinus area, where I was experience all that painful pressure. When woke the pressure had been relieved. The pad on my forehead was clean, how ever the ones on both toes were full and "slimy". I meant to do it last night, but we were sleeping upstairs in the kids room (we had coming sleeping in the two rooms downstairs) and I forgot to get my detox pads out of my room. I also realized I only have one more application and need to order more! Anyway, today i had pretty bad sinus pressure again ...so tonight I will do it again (even though I may not be able to "see it through" since I have run out), but I am hoping another night might "do the trick" or at least advance the process.

With having company over for our evening meal as we enter into Shabbat and than all day with a larger gathering (and lots of yummy food present)...I was glad that this was my last juice fasting Shabbat in this "round". "Breaking Bread" so to speak is so much apart of our culture, as I have mentioned before, that it is hard to not connect in that way. Even though 4 people present had juice fasted before, and were supportive and encouraging...it's just not the same. It was nice to be doing it with Ben though...so I need be sure to tell him that (again). :-)

I juiced just before the sun went down, and put some in the fridge for breakfast and froze the rest of the day's. It worked perfectly with out getting bitter or "stale" like I have before. So that helped a lot. I also had some Emergen C. So I am satisfied with how that work for future, for any day that I may not able to juice. I may have lost some enzymes in the freezer, but I figure I am getting more nutrients than Master Cleanse. It is more satisfying to me too.MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-931096888379034202012-02-02T07:42:00.001-08:002012-02-02T08:43:33.726-08:00Juice Feast ~ Day 26

My cold is moving but not gone. It went from my chest to my sinuses. My hearing is muffled and my head hurts and my nose is stuffed, so I can't taste well. We have friends coming over tomorrow and the next day...I really hope it keeps moving!! Out side of that I am feeling pretty good. :-)

The painful lump that appeared in my right arm pit is going down and only slightly tender now. I only ended up rebounding once yesterday. I hope to again today to try help keep things moving. Last night I ended up putting a Soul Pad over the lump, over night. I think that really helped, because it was still very painful when I went to bed but was not when I woke and reduced in size significantly.

What is a Soul Pad you might ask? It is a really neat product that is used widely in Japan to help detox. They are nifty little pre-made disposable herbal packs that you use to reflex points of areas of concern to draw out toxins. One of the most effect central spots are the feet. I have been using them on my feet the last couple nights. You put them on over night and remove them when you wake up. When you look into the pad if there was anything to draw it will appear on the pad as a slimy dark black or brown goo which is mostly soaked into the herbal media, but if it was really badthere will be some on the surface of the pad too. You dispose it. Than you continue to do this each night until the pad comes out clean. You want to know one of the weirdest things about it? The pads smell like cooked bacon when they are full of toxins! Then all was drained. I think I will try one on my sinus area tonight, because I am really really stopped up - up there right now. It is suggested to put one o the affected area of concern and one on the foot. I just checked the reflexology points and I did have it over the lung point on my foot (even though I had not though about that specifically), so I wonder if that is why it moved out of the lungs! Humm...I will make it a point to put it over the nose points tonight and see what happens. There are similar "detox foot pads" out there by other name brands too. I expect that they all work similarly, even though they may have different recipes.

You could do something similar with a crushed garlic and olive oil poultice on the bottoms of your feet or a charcoal poultice. But some people are sensitive to the oils in the raw garlic burning the skin. Both the garlic and charcoal (mixed with water to form a paste) are very very messy. That is another advantage to these pads. It is a very simple and clean way to draw the junk out.

If you know me, or have read my other blog for a while. You know that I am a BIG fan of activated charcoal. It is a "must have" item for every natural home emergency/treatment kit. I have used it to treat many things, from food poisoning, to stomach aches, to brown recluse spider bites and suspected tetanus. It has so many applications, if you are not aware of Activated Charcoal and you want to treat your family naturally, I HIGHLY recommend this book. There are lots more books out there too, but this one is my favorite so far. This is where I like to buy my Medical Grade Activated Charcoal in bulk.

My Skirts:

Before my juice fast started, I noticed that my skirts were getting snug arround the hips and "riding high" around the waist...you know... like the Tim Conway character on the old Carol Bernette Show. Anyway, one of the things that has reduced greatly during this Juice feast has been my waist line (5" last I checked!). So my skirts have dropped down to sit where they should. :-) (YES!) When I stand, they are actually getting kind of baggy. (YES AGAIN!) :-) I am looking forward to buying some new clothes in a couple months for the warmer season. 9I hope to fins some linene and take it to my Amish Seamstress, because I know I will busy outside! I will make due with what I've got (even though a lot of my skirts are really getting beat up here on the farm)...I am hoping to purchase a noticeable size difference when I do. It will be worth the wait (or should I say weight?)!
MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-79548738884425908192012-02-01T09:25:00.001-08:002012-02-01T09:57:48.830-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 24 & 25 I just didn't have anything interesting to share yesterday. Now we are gearing ahead for overnight company and open house for Shabbat. So likewise again, my mind is elsewhere. I really am glad this will be our last Shabbat on the JF. This is my least favorite time of the the fasting.

This morning I awoke with my daughter Naomi nuzzled into my chest for some morning snuggles. Those are very rare occasions for her. So that was very precious to me. As I woke, (however) I noticed a painful lump under my right arm. It seems to be an inflamed lymph node. It really is tender. I expect it is trying to process some of my detoxing and something is "backing up" in there. It really does hurt! :-( This was "the straw" i needed to actually start rebounding. I have been putting it off...but i know that it helps get the lymph node flushing...so I started with some mild "bouncing" today. I made it a point to move my arms in wide motions the whole time. (Like jumping jacks) I am going to try to hop on it again later, and a couple times tomorrow in the hopes to pass what ever it is in there. I am not sure how long it will take. I won't be doing it over Shabbat, but will get back to it on Sunday. If you feel compelled to pray for me in that way, I really would appreciate it.

Did I mention? Today was suppose to be Ben's last day on His week-long Juice Fast, but He said he would stick to it, through the end of my time with me. Isn't that sweet! He just turned his 7 day fast into a 12 day one for me!! How romantic! :-)MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-84419855672140014942012-01-30T11:53:00.001-08:002012-01-30T16:15:32.605-08:00Juice Feast ~ Day 23

Confession: I have nibbled a few raw kale chips that just came out of the dehydrator. (THEY ARE SO GOOD!) I felt the need to confess, but I would do it again too. :-)

Thankful thoughts: You know, here I am on day 23 of my feast. I am praising Yah for the opportunity to do this. This seems so hedonistic at times; like a rich man's privilage that is self indulgent. After further speculation...it really IS. I know it could have been done cheaper, with a cheaper juicer... (or even a blender and a jelly bag!) or without purchasing organic produce (by growing my own!) but it still is such a blessing to be able to do it here and now! I am thankful for the opportunity to cleanse my body in this way and rejuvinate it. I am thankful for a jump start on loosing weight, that I have been carrying since I started having babies. I am just thankful plain old thankful today!

Benifits that will go beyond my Juice Feast:

With the cleansing benefits set aside. There are lots of other things I will be taking with me from this cleanse. Many are becoming apparent already.

1. This time period has opened my family up to the love of greens. I have always liked greens. However, i was a causal green eater, because my family wasn't so big on them. That changed when I was preganant with my 6th child. My midwife insisted and I complie (eating cooked greens 1-3 times daily and noticed what a HUGE difference they made in preganancy. My family was happy just to let me eat them "on the side". (Sauteed collard greens with garlic served with overlight eggs, is one of my FAVORITE breakfasts.) However this all changed recently when my family, has been raving, requesting and cheering when I serve them greens! I am TICKLED!!! So greens are a new staple in our diet now!! I have never even grown them in my garden before...but THIS YEAR...Ben and I have already agreed...GREENS GREEN GREENS!! I am so excited!

2. I have (obviously) gotten into the swing of juicing again. It is something that I know will benefit my families health. If I have the means (produce and electricity!) to do it...I am going to continue to encorperate that into our diet/lifestyle more regularly.

3. Having done this...I would (and will) easily do it again. I could see juice featsing a couple times a year. I could seeing taking it a whole three months some day. I couls also see juicing as a lifestyle into my old age (should I be so blessed as to see my old age.) I would be MUCH more confident in treating illness in my family this way too, should it occur.

4. I have been inspired to be more diligent with eating more raw, more regularly. I have gone through "raw phases" before, so this isn't new to me. But each time, my desire gets stronger as does do my habits. We have always been big produce eaters, but I would like to encorperate more live foods into our diet. I don't forsee going bak to being vegetarian again (but I guess you never know!) Being homesteaders and all animals are an active part of what we are (and ontinue to) plan on doing here. I have been bugged that we live on 85 acres of land and are homesteading, yet we are still buying a lot of our own meat. Something has got to give...either we need to produce more or eat less. I want to stop buying other's (grass fed organic) meat! So my recent conclusion is BOTH. We will produce more and consume less...so that we can stop buying meat. (That has been the plan all along...but when I keep buying it, the sting of the importance and ugerncy of that change is easy to push off. So..I will stop buying it! That will shift things much more quickly..I am sure!) We are in the process of planning how we will spend this year's tax money. We can come up with so many tings that the money needs to be used for...but proper fencing and bringing in more lifestock just got bumped up the list - to "NOW IS THE TIME"! I bet that isn't a normal revelation to most people coming out of a juice feast! But hey...I've never been normal. :-)

5. I want to continue after my fast to be deliberate to continue to loose wieght and condition my body. I want to healthy and strong, so that I may better serve my King and family.

6. Last, but by no means least...I see a new willingness in my (most amazing , precious and dear) husband in committing to a higher personal standard for eating. He knew I always had his food covered at home, but he was happy to "indulge in fast food" and snacks from the gas station when he was out and about, but now he has committed NOT TO! This is PRICELESS to me! It's one thing to "know better" but it is quite another to DO better! So I am very proud at my husband for crossing over to DO what he has known for along time!!

MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-13911758409826350372012-01-29T05:50:00.000-08:002012-01-29T06:23:43.895-08:00Juice Feast ~ Day 22 OK...the smoke has cleared. (Thank you for your prayers. Praise Yah!) I have stepped of the ledge of the 'Precipice of Chewing' and have gotten back into the 'Vehicle of Health and Wellness'! Tee Hee. I did not transgress my JF...I was just holding an unloaded fork to my own head and thinking crazy thoughts for a couple days...but I'm good now! :-)

Today is weigh-in day. So if you are interested in my weekly stats, please check my weigh in page (above). I am not going to post them in a separate post any more. My weight loss has slowed down (as expected) but it is continuing. I got two days of colonic in toward the end of last week which I thought would have a more noticeable effect on weight loss and detox. I did tend to loose a good amount around the waist this week in comparison to previous weeks. So I wonder if THAT was why (or if it would have happened anyway)? My cycle started, and I have NO interest in continuing a week's worth of colonic during my cycle. So...I am not sure where to go with that from here. We'll see.

Erev Shabbat is the hardest time be on this feast for me. That Friday evening meal, when we enter into Shabbat has so much kinship, connection in it (even when we keep it real simple). It marks the week's end and beginning of Yah's Holy Day. We unplug from our own agenda and fully plug into His like no ther day. It is a spiritual, emotional, physical vacation every week. It gives us pause in our hearts and truly is a special treasure we share with our Abba (Father), the family (in Him) that we are with and the family in Him from afar. It unifies His people to Himself and to each other. Yes...I can still enter into Shabbat by sipping juice at that time...but it is NOT the same. That first Shabbat meal off the Juice Feast will be a very beautiful "coming home" to me.... when it times comes again.

We are still working through our colds here at home, but they are moving along...I'll be glad when it is over. It messes with our fellowship with other families! :-(

I am not listing my juice intake any more, unless I try new recipes, or do something unusual, because it is very boring to read the same thing every day! :-)

Ben seems to have found his Juicy Groove. :-) I am so proud of him! I am actually thankful He was on the Feast with me in the last two days when I was so low, because there was no way I could bail during his JF week. :-) His timing to join me was perfect - after 18 years...He is still my knight in shining armor! It was an emotionally and hormonally charged day. It was the first day I considered quiting. I have just started my period, and it is my first since my miscarriage...so I am trying to keep all that into prospective.

Dec 21 I am considering ending this at 30 days. My appetite is gone...i find am "forcing" my juices. I think my intake is decreasing and I don't want this to become harmful if I am not diligent to do it right...so I want to be mindful of that. I miss the meal fellowship with my family. Yes, I still cook for them. Yes, I still sit at the table with them...but it just does not feel like we re "sharing a meal". It feels a bit alienating and divisive in spirit. That is NOT OK with me. Again - this might be hormonal perception...so I might have to two dragons to slay in this next week. :-)

I was told that this can also be a sort of "detox" of the liver that can make emotional wackiness...
Prayers welcome!

On a lighter note, Ben has lost 12 pounds in 3 days. He claimed he is gonna stay on the JF until he reaches his "original weight"....... 8 lbs and 7 oz. :-)MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-31612791621543321892012-01-26T06:52:00.001-08:002012-01-26T16:06:18.075-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 19

1/2 Gallon of GR's Green Juice with Dandelion Greens.

OK I am going light on juice today...this cold just seems to be making me "force it down". At least I can't taste the bitterness of dandelions. :-) I might have a little warm hebral tea before the night is over.

Ben started His Juice Feast this morning. He has decided to do it for a week and take it from there!! I am so proud of him for being open to try this! I really want to grow old with him and I know if he would be willing to do this every so often in our years to come that it will increase our quality of life together!

Anyway, I expect his detox to be a little rougher than mine. He likes to indulge in junk a bit more than I do..so I am afraid he will see the effects of that during this fast. He has a cold like the rest of us...so He is run down today. He came home from working at 3:30 (and only 1/2 gallon of green juice) and went straight to bed with a splitting head ache. Poor fella. Please pray for him this week.

Ben was teasing me this morning, he said, "You look like a married Indian woman." Why? Because I have a big red detox sit in the middle of my forehead. :-)

This I have learned:

1. Dandelion Greens are very bitter (i knew that - I have eaten them before) but extremely concentrated in juice. I have a feeling much of my case will be going to the sheep or chickens. There is know way I am going to get through this case before it goes bad...and I am not going to suggest my DH put himself through it. :-)

2. Our subconscious mind really has a strong ability to sabotage our growth and inhibit us from doing what we know is right of good for us!! I got so made at myself this morning. This was it the day of my first colonic - no more excuses. I gather my supplies and find I missing the most important element...the bag! I looked everywhere, Ben looked everywhere! I just had it out at the beginning of my feast as I was preparing...gone. I am a pretty organized kind of person. Everything has a place and I have a place for everything. :-) SO.... you can imagine my frustration! So I juiced my morning juice and went to town to get another one..in the cold rain, with my red nose and cold. Like I said...today WAS the day! You know what...it wasn't so bad after all! Strange - yes...but do-able.

MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-20741541628300286532012-01-25T15:02:00.001-08:002012-01-30T11:52:40.786-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 18I have had nothing but green juice today to make up for lakc of "requirements" being filled yesturday. :-) A certain friend made me feel guilty over slacking on my greens. Its funny though because I have been wanting to each kale all day...I have had kale recipes on my mind...nourishing soups, sautes and salads. After my feast I think I will be sharing lots of "greens recipes" on HomeShalom! :-)

My Juices today were:

1.5 Qrt GR Green Juice and 1.5 Qrts of what I am affectionatly calling,
1.5 Qrt Clean the Fridge Juice. 2 romain hearts, 5 stalks swiss chard, 1/2 pound baby spinach, 1 pkg a celery hearts, cuke, handful of peppermint, 2-3 apples It was good! (It would also be nice with a 1/4 Lemon or lime added.)

Today was produce day and I filled two fridges with fresh organic produce. With some left on the porch. I ordered more greens than normal since Ben will be starting tomorrow. We also like to feed them to the kids...So it adds up. This is what we recieved today:

We love ourselves some organic produce! aaa haa
5# garlic
case dandilion greens (12 bunches)
10# lemons
10# limes
case cucumbers (20#)
case collard greens (24 bunches)
case lacinato kale (24 bunches)
case red bell peppers (about 12-15)
case celery (18 - I should have gotten 2 since Ben will be juicing!)
25# carrots
2 cases of apples (about 80 apples each, they were a good deal!) :-)
case of pinapples (9 small)
1 lb fresh spearmint (I was expecting peppermint! We'll see how that goes!)

Most of this will last about 2 weeks. There will be some thing left over (they keep), like the citrus, apples and garlic for sure. However, I expect we will make short work fo the rest of it.

OK..... tomorrow is the first day of my colonics. If I were properly following the JF protocal, I would have done it every day for my first 7 days. However, I was not mentally prepared, nor was I ready with supplies. (As this is something i have never done before.) I got the last thing I was waiting for today (gulp)...my time of procrastingating has come to an end. The plan is to do it 7 days in a row (except Shabbat). I may share more about it...I am not yet sure how though. :-)

Things I have learned:
1. Purple cabbage juice is VERY cleansing (if you know what I mean).
2. Romain hearts and cucumbers are very nice ways to "lighten" the flavor and consistancy of green juice. They both add a fresh and crisp element to the juice that I appreciate. The dark leafy greens are so concentrated, that these are nice elements to encorperate into them.MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-61303300888141950592012-01-24T18:00:00.000-08:002012-01-24T18:00:04.173-08:00Juice Feast ~ Days 17
Day dreaming of lush gardens and year round greens in my future...Of course that doesn't "get it done" does it? :-)

Today's Juices:

1 Qrt Collard Mint Juice - 1 bunch collard greens, 1 apple, 1 pear, 1/2 lemon, handful of mint, 2 carrots, 1 cuke

1 Qrt with 4000 mg Emergence C (We've got cold circulating in the house and my throat is getting sore.) :-(

1 Qrt Getting Rawdiculous Purple Lemonade - 1 lemon, 1 lime, 3-4 apples, 2 carrots, 1 1-2" ginger, 1/2 of a small purple cabbage

Supplements:

MSM, Iron, Enzymes, and Cascara SagradaMommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-79754535268345702482012-01-23T16:11:00.000-08:002012-01-23T16:11:00.637-08:00Juice Feast ~ Day 16 When I did my weigh in last night, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I have lost (a total of) 15.6 pounds so far. That is about a pound a day average. Wow. I know it has to slow down sometime, but that is still pretty exciting. I am seeing clothes fit more loosly, but it is fun to put a number to it too! It is modivating to continue too, so I am glad I have chosen to document it.

This morning I concocted a scrum-dily-icious juice. (As my wiegh in last night was not reward enough!) :-) This one is going on the recipe page! I am calling it:

2 - Pinapple Mint Green Juice (mks 1 qrt) - 1/2 bunch of Kale, 1/2 pinapple (peeled), handful of mint, handful of parsley, 1cuke, 1 celery celery heart (or half a head)

Today was a tasty juice day! Here is another. The color is GORGEOUS!

1 Qrt - Sunset Blend- One large sweet potato, 1 carrot, 1 red bell, 1 beet, 2 apples, 1 orange

Detoxing: The other day I was quick to assume that fennel makes the juice kind of thick and slimy. But then it was happening with other juices. Sorry fennel, I'm not so sure it was your "fault" now. It seems to be a way that my body shows detoxing. It comes and goes, but it happening more often even with juices. I have juiced before without the slimy tongue effect. It kind makes the whole inside of my mouth feel like it is coated. I recently remembered reading that "tongue scrapers" were handy tool during a fast...so apparently, it is a common way to release toxins. Ben used to have it happen to him when he ate our fast food on the road a lot back in PA. I have never had it happen until now...So that is another good, but subtle way my body is being flushed. YAY! :-)

MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4498143237522217601.post-52590655979204376272012-01-22T20:09:00.000-08:002012-01-22T20:44:40.451-08:00Weekly Wiegh In #2
To see the full picture of my Weekly Wiegh-Ins, you may visit my Wiegh-In Page located at the top of the blog. It is so nice to have someone to bounce things of off and talk to about it who is going through it real time with you! She is documenting her journey too. Ayn is a raw food lover and has lots of interesing posts on various things, including raw food. It's good readin'. Both are new blogs, so if you want to visit and comment, I bet they would love the encouragement. Its so much more fun to blog if you know someone is actually reading it once in a while. :-) (Or maybe that's just me??....Na)

My juices today:
1 Qrt Kale, Red Bell, Apple, Cuke, Celery
1 Qrt Carrot, Pear, Apple, Pasley, Cuke, Bell Pepper
1 Qrt Carrot, Apple, Wheat Grass, Parsley

All is well!MommySetFreehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108945088100513996noreply@blogger.com1
